I think James' idea of blogging is fantastic.
He's not the only one who feels 'out of touch' with family. As the years go by, as we grow older, I've realized that keeping the family together has become extremely hard.
But I guess that's just part of life. Remember those days during Chinese New Year when the entire family gathered at Grandma's house in Jing Mei, along with 15 cousins and other relatives? Kids lined up to receive their 'red envelops' and the house was filled with people chit-chatting, laughing, eating... Those days are officially over. 一切都变得好冷清。
I can't even describe it.
I went back to Taipei on Christmas Day. I sat on my bed and looked at the dressing table in my room. It belonged to Mom when we first returned to Taipei in 1990. The book shelf in the corner is also really ancient, so old that it could be torn down with my bear hands. For all these years Mom and Dad have been so frugal, hence the accumulation of tons and tons of old clothes, which have filled up every closet in the house.
It's time to de-clutter. Seriously. Throw out the old and bring in the new.
